Blood on egg shell

Recommended Posts

I have four chickens, all appear to be fine and lay consistantly. A few weeks ago I noticed what looked like a few specks of blood on the egg shell. The egg inside was normal. Yesterday and today the egg has had a lot of blood on the shell. I can't see any round any of their vents. They are all behaving normally etc, so I'm not sure what to do. I'd be grateful for any thoughts?

Thankyou

I've had this with a couple of mine especially when they first start laying. I think its just a blood vessel bursting......bit like when you have a cold and you've blown your nose too hard.

If nothing still coming out of the vent now I don't think anything to worry about. Perhaps find out which one it is and keep an eye on them.

I'd also advise keeping an eye on whichever one is doing it, if she's laying particularly large eggs, she'll be more at risk of a prolapse.
