Unhappy with my new hen purchase.

Recommended Posts

I had thought about going down there. However the land where the chickens are at, is not hers. She rents part of the land and goes there daily - but what time this is, who knows.

I could spend £20 on petrol to get there to find she's not there.

Or, I could let nature take it's course with Heather and use the £20 to fund a new hen.

Try not to beat yourself up JellyKelly. My first hens came with the eglu but the next ones that I got that I bought myself I did all the stupid things that you are not supposed to.

I didn't pick them up myself, I didn't check them over, I didn't look in their eyes or at their noses for discharge, I was just bouncing with excitement. One of them was sneezing as it went into the chicken box :wall::wall: .

They both sneezed in my car all the way home, and I still didn't turn round and go back :doh: , I took them home, luckily having enough sense to keep them very separate from the rest of my flock and them had to nurse 2 sick birds with colds for a month :roll: .

And lets not mention the time the old guy with the pipe told me the cage at the auction had 3 girls in, and now one of them is called Bill :shock: .

We've all had the wool pulled over our eyes a few times, it takes a few times before you realise that not everybody in the chicken world is as lovely and honest as everyone here in omleteville.

Anyway :oops: , completely lost my thread :lol: , busy rambling, just wanted to let you know that you are not alone, and I hope your black chicken is on the mend soon

I have a Silkie with a wonky toe, it adds to her charm :wink:

Me too. Muggle sort of waddles rather than walks, but it's very endearing. Sorry you got duped, jellykelly, but when your little black hen gets better, you'll love her all the more for her imperfections, I'm sure. :D

Has the breeder got an e-mail address you could try, rather than phoning? Alternatively, you could leave a message saying you want to buy more hens. I'm sure she'd return your calls then! :roll:

I could try asking for more hens.

I shall say "could you please pick out your sickest, weakest, wonky chickens for me, box them all up and have them ready at the gate please!" - Yeah, she'd probably take that call!

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

she'll be running to answer that one :D
