Blue-DiamondChick07
Can I dust it directly into the coop? Or is it only mean't for bird application? Thanks
jellykelly
I cover the coop in it before adding beddings etc. I figure that the mites would have to get through the powder to get into any nooks and cranny's.
The Dogmother
You can use it for both, but bear in mind that while it's a good preventative, it's wise to back it up with a good vet-prescribed anti-lice/mite programme
jellykelly
'Amen' to that one claret! We've currently got lice. It makes me itch when one of the kids come home from school with nits. It's 100 times worse when you discover that your hens have lice!
The Dogmother
not wanting to start you scratching, but be aware the although chicken lice won't live on humans, they will happily crawl up yer arms when you are handlign the chook... I had to pluck a licey meat chook recently and wiped bands of cooking oil around my wrists to stop them from crawling up my arms. Red mites though will transfer from the housing and travel on you to infest your home!
