I only got 2 eggs this morning instead of 3 why would one girl not lay? I have searched the garden, but no luck - slightly worried...

They do have a day off now and again, I have one who takes a week off when shes just not in the mood. Think shes worked out she will get fed either way.

Don't worry - she's just taking a little rest, she'll probably be back in action tomorrow. While my first Omlet gingernuts laid daily for the first year, I now realise that's actually not the norm - 5-6 eggs a week is more normal.

One of my hybrids hens always takes Tues off and the other Weds.

Forgot to say that Hens lay later each day until it gets too late, so that becomes a day off. Then they lay in the morning again, next day an hour or two later and so on.

 

Does that make sense? hmmm.

All perfectly normal. Mine take the odd day off now and again too. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it except that it often seems to coincide with a sunny day - most likely too busy playing to lay an egg for me!

Worrying a bit again today, still only 2 eggs (thats not a problem) but Billina keeps sitting on the nest and making gentle clucking noises. Shes been sitting in the coop now for a good 20 minutes, is the egg stuck??

She has laid yeah (at last) she seems fine, I'm going to worm them tomorrow, as thats due - she just seemed a bit offish
