how many girls in my cube, rehoming some temporarily

Recommended Posts

hi everyone

i have a (cube green) plus a meter extension with my 4 ex bats, now my parents want chicks & some free range girls are being rescued friday so i said to dad i could house 3 for him until he gets his coop (approx 4 weeks)

will they have enough space? i am gonna have a run area for them that the cube sits in giving them a extra 3 meters to explore & this will be available all the time as they cant get out the 6ft garden fence & we've never had foxes

Also will i need to quarantine them? if so what can i use as i only have the 1 cube. i have some mesh i can make a run with but no other house :( will a covered box be ok? covered so it doesnt get wet? especially as the cold weather is over?

gonna try & get a coop/ hutch on freecycle

You'll need some separate accommodation for them for both quarantine reasons and for reasons of integration. Maybe a cat carrier in the run and then some canes to section of part of it?

Someone cleverer than me is sure to come along and point you to a useful link on integration and maybe pictures of a cube run with a temporary barrier in it.

I would take care even though you haven't had foxes you could do. Why not section off your extension from cube run as you say you have some mesh and like Tricia says use a cat carrier or box.

If it's really cold at night sling something over the top to insulate them. Difficult in your situation to isolate them against disease spreading so guess you'd have to be pretty inventive. Hmm shall have to think about that. Perhaps you can get that rabbit hutch pretty quick?

Going to be interesting how your girls react, you better do some sweet talking. :D

thanks for the tips :)

turns out that dad wants to wait until the coop etc is ready so wont be needing to house any extras :)

My girls free range during the day when i am at work, is this a bad idea? i only have a small garden 5 x 5 m fully fenced to 6ft & we've had them over a yr no problems.
