Olly
Don't worry about the runny poo, your hens are probably still getting over the journey. Yes, hens do poo a lot but it makes fabulous compost! If you don't already have a composter, get one set up. Some people use a long-handled rake, or just move the run aside - or you can put a layer of horse-bedding (aubiose, hemcore or similar) in the run, and just rake the whole lot out every few weeks. Roobaloo
Mine had slightly watery poo when they first arrived...but firmed right up a day or so later. If you want to post images, you need to 'host' them online...The best place, in my opinion, is http://www.photobucket.com Sign up and 'Upload' the pictures. You then need to 'Share' your photo...(there's usually a link to 'Share' above the photo once it's uploaded!) You'll get a window pop up, along the top select "Get Link Code" and select "Direct Link for Layout pages" Copy that link and it should look similar to this: (ignore the fact it says "Select All") http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b330/judziah172/photosukib.jpg Back to the forum and Click the Img Button at the top of your "Post a reply" window....and you get: [img][/img] These are known as 'tags' ...so now you need to post the link between the two tags so it looks like this: and when you submit it, it'll do this:
Gelbel
Chooks are lean, mean, pooing machines. You will soon be an expert at identifying different types of poo and which type means what and which particular one smells to high heaven. My first lot loved to kip in the nest box so I had to clean it everyday. You could try a plant pot in there to try to put them out. Did not work for me - so I let them get on with it. Just use shreaded paper in the nest as it's so cheap and easy to clean. My current girls seem to sleep in a different place each night. I am wishing they'd use the nest box everynight as when they kip on a perch in the run they leave piles of the floor which is awkward to clear up in a quick morning routine. I use hemcore in the run and just hoe it all into a pile once a week/fortnight as necessary and poo pick - slinging it straight on my garden. The girls have a nice time kicking it (the hemcore that is ) all back into place!
ValerieR
I know what you mean! Reading the Eglu info you would think they only pooed on the tray! I suspected however that would not be the case I have only had mine a week but am moving the run every day.
