WildeWoman
I am thinking of a couple of Orpington Hens to free range but don't want my vegetable garden trashed! The veggies are fenced off with a 2ft high fence - will this be sufficient to stop such heavy birds helping theirselves to my dinner??? All thoughts appreciated! Daphne
They don't bother flying much at all; however they can fly over 3ft netting at least (not far tho!) My veggie patch has 2.6ft chicken wire fencing and it works for me. They may well nibble anything that pokes over the fence tho
Janty
I have to admit that my cochins get into the veg garden quite regularly and they are a similar build to Orps. I think it depends on the bird. To be fair, Scary Spice breaks in and Lauren follows.
WildeWoman
Thanks Guys! Pot luck probably then!
karlotta
One of my orps regularly jumps on top of a cube run. They've never bothered with trying to get over the electric fence though. Mine don't have their wings clipped though.
