Wow, what a shock!

Recommended Posts

I was just watching my lavender araucana scratching about in the garden. I picked her up, noticed she had a dirty bottom so I tried to clean it off with a bit of kitchen roll. Then I noticed her vent looked swollen and a bit watery.

After I did this she kept stopping and looked like she was straining to poo. I saw just a runny bit of water come out and hoped it wasn't egg white. I decided to put her back in the run thinking I would ask for advice on here in case she had an egg stuck or broken.... I picked her up, looked at her vent again. I heard a pffffft noise and thought what on earth is that! Then I noticed what I thought was an almighty prolaspe. I was slowly putting her down on the ground when a small egg shot out onto the floor! It's cracked, but I will stick it in my omlette tonight!

I noticed her eggs were getting smaller and less frequent this week and she laid one on the floor of the run... maybe that shot out too. Could something be wrong?

Flubenvet will sort out worms (get the complicated dosage correct though). I think , reading these forums that VermX is a preventer rather than a treatment. Got mine from Hyperdrug.com, and arrived the next day!

Ours are just finishing a weeks run of Flubenvet, and they've picked up quite well.
