penelope
Hi There As a fellow veggie coeliac I thought I would share some important info. When we are out ( especially at a hospital restaurante) We often have a jacket with cheese. Very yummy but a lot of bought in ready grated cheese has flour added to stop it all sticking together in the packet. Not something you would think of unless you ask!! Tell her not to worry about eating cakes etc at a party, she will soon get used to having her own plate of scrummy stuff that you or the other mums can make or buy. My friends all spoil my daughter silly with buying yummy treats to keep at their house if she stops for tea. Please contact me if you need some more help . Take care & don't worry. For me diagnosis was a good thing as I feel better than I have for many years.
Daphne
Not much to add to all the excellent info here other than to say my elderly uncle has been a coeliac for yonks, and has mild Crohn's as well. He has quarterly B12 injections to help him as nutrient absorption is impaired. He eats meat so we can usually find something on a menu and/or if booking ahead we check out options; places are usually very good at finding something special. Two things tho, even at his great age (82) when he should know better he will sneak something he knows he shouldn't - so you might need to keep an eye/gently let your daughter know how important it is to stick to the diet. And in the unlikely circs your daughter is in hospital, please make sure all the nursing staff know - TELL them and check the note about special diet is above her bed. We have found out the hard way that patient notes are not always read.
