introducing 3 new separate chickens to existing pair

Recommended Posts

Hello folks

Looking for some advice please!

I am getting 3 new bantams to go with my existing pekin pair. :D They will be 3 different breeds and won't know each other but I will be getting them the same day.

Will the 3 new ones therefore kind of stick together, so I should deal with it as if I am introducing 2 separate groups? (if you see what I mean!)

Or will it be a hideous chicken war?

Mmm....not sure I'd be brave enough to go with a throw them all in together policy...It took me nearly three weeks to introduce one lf (light sussex) to a hybrid half her size before she stopped being picked on.... :( .

Good luck anyway, however you go about it....

I would put the three new ones in together (none of them will hvae the advantage over the others) but keep them as a separate flockette for a week or so, to quarantine them from your exisitng flock. That way only the three will be affected if one of them brings an illness in, rather than your whole flock.

After a week or so, I would follow the introduction method outlined **here**
