broody due to neglect..bad chicken mummy

Recommended Posts

Ok ...not actually as bad as it sounds... Just had a really busy week, and my poor old Dad has been admitted to hospital, so the care of my two lovely girls has devolved to the rest of the family...

Yesterday they were closed up in the eglu by the time I got in and so I didn't think any more of it....but whoever had done the closing up ( and the suspects have been questioned closely believe me) forgot to remove the eggs.....so tonight when I came in at about 6 ish and let them out to FR whilst I had a cuppa I found only one chook eager to go out and about, and heard that familiar clucking noise from the nest box, and yes there was Pansy, doing an impression of a large fat pancake on a nest of three lovely eggs.....

Oh well I shall continue to turf her out and if necessary give her a dip in a cold bucket to see if that works...she really is too big for my broody crate....Also she is such a little piglet I can't believe she will want to resist the temptation of the lovely meal worms I have in my fridge

Ok so day three of Pansy being broody I brought her in and plunged her in cold water before sending her off to free range....

Unfortunately we are currently undergoing huge landscaping issues in the garden (including a new patio and shed) so it looks like the Somme...

Earlier today I had a Chicken who had given herself a mudbath...she really looked like something from the advertising blurb for Champneys....except of course more beautiful

:lol: She must have got the "vibe" from her "auntie" Blossom...she's doing an excellent impression of a banshee pancake at the moment, though I am considering segregating her with some little donated eggies of her own to look after...if nothing else to free up the nest box for the other girls  You'll remember that her little feathery bum lives in a (cube red) & she gets very possessive of the whole nestbox even if she can only fill 1/8 of it

If you want to borrow the dog cage or the mishmash run section again, just let me know :D

Hope Dad is feeling better
