Lavenders_Blue
The best product for getting rid of lice that are living on your birds is Johnson's Anti-mite spray. You will need to part the feathers and spray right down to the skin where the lice are living. Repeat again in 7 days to catch any that have hatched in the meantime. It's best to treat all your birds as if 2 have got lice, no doubt all of them are infested. This product is not licensed for poultry in the UK so a 48 hour egg withdrawal is required as per the manufacturer's advice. Red mites live in the nooks and crannies of the coop and not on the birds themselves so you need to treat the coop to get rid of them. You can use poultry shield, total mite kill, battles louse powder, a pressure washer or a blowtorch (and no doubt there are other treatments too) depending on the type of housing you have and what is available to you locally. Hope this helps.
lillybettybabs
I had theis problem with babs ( i think she caught them off a very mankey dove). I tried everything but nothing work for her and she started to lay softies and look really down. I found a thread on another forum about using Spot for cats, It says to put 4 drops on EACH bird you have. The egg withdrawel is a bit sketchy (some say you don't need to, some say 11 days) but they have gone and she is laying well again. This product is *not licensed for use on poultry in UK. - Egluntyne.

bellschicks
Thanks for you replies. I have been looking through the thread lice & mites. I have just ordered the Johnson's anti mite spray & poultry sheild I have just phoned my vet about Ivomac eprinex & they said they need to see one of the chickens first, so that will cost £25 then the cost of the ivomac £30 + or do I take one to the vets first or buy it off Hyperdrug. I am going out to wilko's to buy the ant powder. I am going to order some new wormer Flubevent to use next time as everyone on here seems more favorable to it than the verm x I currently use. I think that has covered everything. I just want to get on top off it with my chicks.
