new chickens, runny poop

Recommended Posts

Hi,

got my cube and brought home 2 chickens, 2 year old Maran an 9 month Wyandotte (2 gingernuts arriving later this week)

In their former home, they had been in a big coop with a lot of other chickens and had no access to greens of any sort. Just regular pellets I guess. Anyway 4 days in the cube and eating my grass, bugs and veggies like crazy and they have really bad diarrhea.

Is this just the change in diet? Will it settle down or do I need to do something? They are still laying and seem quite happy.

thanks.

Hi, and congrats on your new arrivals!

It should all settle down in a few days - they will be a bit shaken up by the change in accomadation and change in diet!

Not sure how your set up is working, but might be worth not giving them any treats or anything for the moment - let them get used to the pellets and anything they find in their run. Then once they have settled in, start to give them a few treats for evening tea.

If the problem is really ongoing (several weeks) then might be worth worming with Flubenvet, but wouldn't panic just yet!

Hi,

the runny poop is back. It went away for a few days and I was so relieved but its back this morning, looks like liquid chocolate. Could it be caused by stress? The maran seems quite afraid sometimes (even though she is the bully) and I wonder if this could be the cause. She has only been with me for a week. I hope she settles down. How long should I leave this without medication?

thanks.
