I have a girl who is looking sad, sunken neck, I have checked her crop and its fine, checked her back not egg bound, been wormed, layed last friday (only laid 3 eggs in total, she is about 24 weeks old.) She looks healthy just not herself, not energetic. Caught her sitting on one of the other girls eggs today......Has she gone broody?

Is her breathing ok? (ie not rattly?) No eye/nose discharge? Is she eating/drinking normally? Is her crop full and reasonably soft during the day or is it hard? Is it empty first thing? Does she stand and walk normally? No waddling? What did you worm with? Is her tail up or down? Is she standing about in the run not doing stuff? Sorry for all the questions, but its a bit hard to tell whats up from your description, and going broody at such a young age would be unusual, but it is possible.

Sounds like a softee on the way, they can have problems when young. Is she straining at all. There is good advice in the FAQ section

She is ok, no discharge, no rattly breathing a healthly looking comb. She is walking well but sitting down when she can. She stands and shuts her eyes when she can. Listless tail is up but she just stands there. comes out of the coop and into the run. I have taken her into the house for the last couple of evenings for a wash and drink! She does love the attention and looking out of the kitchen window! Eating when i throw some corn in. full crop. I gave her some warm water the other night in case of an impacted crop but this was fine. She is not losing weight.

 

She first laid 12 days ago and went day on day off until last friday. We had 3 eggs in total 2 good size and the last was small. I checked her for a stuck egg that was good. I use Vermex to worm her.

 

I will check the softee guidance as this could be it. She lays the best blue eggs you have ever seen. She was last into the coop about 2 weeks later than the other girls. first there was a bit of pecking but they settled well after 2 weeks. the other girls tend to mother her a bit now!
