How do I get a Towbar fitted ?

Recommended Posts

I've been thinking of getting a towbar fitted to my Zafira but I have no idea how much it costs or how you go about getting one fitted ? I'm hoping for omletters with words of wisdom

(We have an old sailing dinghy that my husband can't use because he has no way of getting it from the drive to any water - I need to sort a road trailer as well but I thought one thing at a time)

We are thinking about getting one as well and asking the blokes at work, who know about cars, they said to look on line for mobile towbar fitters, which I will be doing when I've finished the important things like catching up on the forum and farmville :D

Mr W has a tow bar on his little car for towing his Laser dinghy around. He had it fitted by one of the mobile tow bar fitters, cost £230 for the tow bar, fitting and single electrics.

I had a quote for £450  we wanted a livestock trailer but the cost of the towbar took it out of our reach

Seems everything doubles when they see a BMW symbol... *grumbles*...

we bought and fitted our own, from towsure, and we got the kind where you can detach the tow hitch, so when you go into the boot you dont crack your shins, or get covered in grease. Check out yr local agricultural engineering co, they're usually cheaper!!

We recently had one fitted by a company that will come out to you. £160 - bargain! I've seen people get some wildly varying quotes so it really does pay to shop around a bit, especially if you get a quote for £450 Tasha!

Now what do you mean exactly by 'single electrics' ? I know you want electrics to the tow bar so you can control the lights on the trailer but not the term 'single electrics' makes me wonder if there are options on the electtric hookup ?

I'd have not thought of that, must make sure I ask as most of the time we wouldn't want the tow bar.

I've recently discovered all these variations as well! From what I can gather, you can have a detachable towbar - depends on your car (I couldn't have one as the towbar comes through a precut panel in the bumper of the car).

We were asked if we needed single electrics - just for lights (which is what I had). You can also have bits added so you can plug in a fridge for a camper/caravan (which is what I should have asked for  )
