introducing growers and layers

Recommended Posts

how old do i start introducing growers ?

how old do i then start introducing layers ?

my chicks are only 5 weeks old and still inside go out the garden when its a nice day and love it. i thought when they are 6 weeks i can move them into my garage but one of the chicks has still got baby fluff will it be ok with no heat or shall i give them another week inside so move them at 7 weeks old after that they need to be moved to their home outside next to my old girls to start the introducing process can they go out at 10/11 weeks ? then they can free range with the older girl around 18 weeks but sleep in their own home and then keep going and see how they all get on

thanks amie x

Your plan is a good one

Remove the heat now while they are indoors, this should prompt the fluffy one to feather up some more, they can then go to the garage at 7 weeks as you suggest, over the next couple of weeks mix some growers pellets in with the crumb so they are on growers alone by 8 weeks

Then as you say outside at 10/11 weeks after 'hardening off' in the garage

Free ranging with the others at 18 weeks as you plan is fine, move them on to layers pellets about then too

I'd think in this weather 6 or 7 weeks will be ok.

Maybe think about having a heat lamp on them in the garage, just at night, to wean them off it?

Then outside a couple of weeks after that.

Don't introduce them to the older hens until POL, so 18-20 weeks :D
