I have heard hens need a sand box, would it be good to get a water one too, would they wash in it or just drink it? thanks xxx

If you don't provide your hens with a dust bath, they will make their own. I used to use a cat litter tray filled with wood ash from the fire and dry compost. Anything for them to roll around in and get in between their feathers will be fine. Sand is ok, but fine sand, not builders sand is best.

 

Chickens feathers easily become water logged, so they wouldn't use a water bath. They will only drink from it, when it is green and disgusting usually
