They dont get meal worms as treats, get baths, give out cuddles. there just laying machines.. so, i guess we don't SPOIL our chooks, we just care for them, a bit too much! Daffodill Posted May 23, 2010 Share Posted May 23, 2010 I think there are pampered hens at one end of the scale and intensivley farmed hens at the other and its conscience that dictates where you sit. For me if something comes into my household I will do my best to make sure it is happy. I wouldn't see it suffer and would not buy expensive treats but I want its enviroment to be somewhere safe & that meets all the creatures needs. I get endless pleasure sitting watching my hens wandering in plenty of space doing what chickens instictivly do. It is a huge run about 10ft by 5ft and 6ft high, but if they still spend most of the time pacing by the door hoping to be let out into the garden. They could then have the whole top of the garden to play in as that is fenced off, by Marigold won't stay there so unfortunately as they have been wormed, the run it is. It is going to hell today as I want to be working in the garden and I know I will be watched and bok boked at constantly. jennydavies Posted May 23, 2010 Share Posted May 23, 2010 I am very much on the same wavelength as Daffodill, I don't spoil our "charges", I would like to think we are giving our chickens and dogs everything they need. Our dogs are not spoilt, they are treated as dogs should be and sometimes people think they are hard done by because they are not allowed on the furniture or in the bedroom. They both have nice warm comfortable beds and in the summer they lie on the cool floor tiles. The chickens have a safe, warm henhouse and a fenced in FR area. They get a good balanced diet of pellets, grains and kitchen s"Ooops, word censored!"s and I now make my own peck blocks for an occasional treat.
