docsquid
We have to visit Sheffield in June, and wonder if anybody living up that way could recommend us somewhere to stay. It needs to be close to the Sheffield Arena, not too awful, and not too expensive either!
The Dogmother
No doubt Egluntyne will be able to help. Have you tried Thistle hotels? We use them a lot for work and they're pretty reasonable, otherwise, there's always good old Travelodge.
rabbitfluff
I've always fancied staying in the Noose & Gibbet but then I do have a penchant for staying in odd little pubs. It's directly opposite the Arena so you wouldn't have far to go, but I'm not sure if it would meet your "not too awful" criteria or not! There's the usual suspects of hotels round and about. There's a Premier Inn about 2 minutes away. Among others I can't think of the names of, there's a Holiday Inn and a Hilton in town, and you could use the tram to get to the Arena - 10 mins or so. Or if you want a little posher - St. Paul's Hotel in the city centre. Though coming from Sheffield I haven't actually stayed at any of these, so, erm, this is a bit useless really! Egluntyne
There are loads of Cheap and Cheerfuls in the Arena area. ....which if I'm honest, isn't the most salubrious. I'd say these were your best bets. http://www.premierinn.com/en/hotel/SHEMTI/sheffield-arena http://www.etaphotel.com/gb/hotel-6176-etap-hotel-etap-hotel-sheffield-arena/index.shtml http://www.thewelcomeinn.co.uk/ There are a few others further away which offer transport to the arena, but I gather it can be a bit hit and miss. docsquid
Wow, thank you Egluntyne! That is really helpful. We have booked a room at the Etap Hotel - cheap and cheerful. We are only staying for two nights so even if it is terrible we won't have to endure for long.
Egluntyne
Oh good. Its about half way between Meadowhell and the Arena. I'd say a 10 to 15 minute walk in either direction.
