How Quickly Does Albendazole Work?

Should I let chickens out at all while feeding flubenvet on pellets? I read that they shouldn't be given treats or allowed out so they get their required daily doseage for a week. Can I let them out for the last hour of daylight? Guess who is feeling guilty. I've only started the treatment today.

Strictly speaking you shouldn't, but I bet most of us do., especially when the weather is like this.

Ah cool. That is good to know just in case they break me. I was so good today and didn't let them out, but I could hear one of them making noises like whining. How do they know that is the correct sound to make me feel even more guilty?

I started treating my hens on Saturday with Flubenvet and didnt realise they shouldnt really come out and they have been FR as usual in the garden. I poo pick every morning, and sometimes evening as well, and yesterday when doing this necessary chore I noticed a long white thin worm in one of the poos which was still moving One of the hens was about to eat it until i pushed her out of the way! Should I shut them in for the remainder of the week? Help! Also, is it still OK to put their poo in the composter when treating for worms? Thanks

I let mine out for a hour or so as a rule, if the weather is fine, when they have done the majority of their eating, just to let them stretch their legs. It is against the manufacturers instructions though.

 

I don't give them any other treats.

 

I always compost as usual.

Oh, I didn't realise that either. I used to let them out for the last hour too. I thought it was just so they ate to food we'd kindly doctored for them, and didn't go to their local SainsComart and get something else to eat.

 

Not seen any live worms in the poo, so must have done the trick

Good job that you are worming then When were they last wormed and what is your set up? You may be in a situation where you need to worm again sooner than the advised 3-4 months. Not everyone will get away with a Spring, Summer & Autumn regime. Also not seeing worms in poo does not mean that your chickens don't have worms. Worm infestations often show no obvioius symtoms until it becomes severe and microscopic eggs may well be present in poo. Dead worms can be absorbed when you worm. Sunlight will help destroy worm eggs on the ground and feeding from feeders rather than from the ground is good practise.

I didn't see any worms when I cleaned them out yesterday.

 

What should I do if the chooks do not eat all 4kg of food I weighed out for them within the seven days? Do I continue until they eat it all? I don't like to throw food away. lol

 

I haven't let mine out or even given them corn yet, but it is only day 3.

No, don't feed them any that has been left. They will have eaten what is required to provide the correct dose for their age and weight in the 7 days.
