siamang2
Hi, Can anyone advise me please regarding soft shells and runny whites. I've had a look at other topics and several things keep coming up - not enough calcuim/grit and/or old age. I feed my hens layers pellets with mixed corn and grit mixed in. I'm not sure how much they are eating as I get a feeling the Jackdaws are eating quite a lot of the food. They free range and I have cut there leftovers right down to almost nothing. However I am still frequently getting soft eggs (not sure if it is the same girl each time or not) and I'm also getting very runny whites, to the extent that whilst making a poached egg the white almost completely detaches from the yolk leaving the yolk looking very odd! My hens appear happy enough; they look healthy, come running whenever I open the door and I can't see any obvious signs of mites, worms or anything else. Can anyone offer any suggestions to improve my eggs and what is considered 'old' for a chicken? Many thanks
theherd123
Have you tried adding limestone flour to their food? You can purchase this from horsey type stores and can help with soft shelled eggs. Also the Domestic Fowl Trust sells a liquid calcium supplement which is very good, its called Davinova C. I have used it with success.
