Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

Have had my two girls for a week now, they are settling well but I am worried about my cat, she spends most of her time staring the chooks down while they are in their run and has tried to get her paws into give them a swipe (and hasn't been deterred by the telling off they gave her!) So far I have only let them free range when the cat is shut in, I am worried that if she goes for them when they are out I might not be quick enough to stop her. Any advice?

Does she wear a collar with a bell?

If not,it might be worth it in case she does try to sneak up on them,although to be honest most hens will be very aware of what is around them all the time & will give chase to a cheeky cat

 

One swift beaking to the bum,& she won't bother with them again!

I have a very prodigious hunter,Chilli,& he & the hens life in harmony though,although he does look at them with a glazed look in his eye sometimes...almost like he can't believe his luck

I'm quite intrigued to see how our cat reacts to the chickens when we get them... He was scared enough to approach the Eglu when I put it together today (preferring instead the boxes it came in - typical cat!)

My cats were a bit curious of the chooks..

but then blanche gave one a peck on the nose- the cat didnt go near, ever again.

same story here except my cats now won't go into the garden if they see any sign of a free rangin chicken.

 

if the cat flap sounds i have 2 chickens at the back door in 3 seconds flat expecting treats.. poors cats!

 

 

I have even had to shut the chickens away so the cats can go out and do their buisness!

Our ginger tom was all swagger till one hen puffed up her feathers and he backed off. They now live in harmony - 3 hens FR, rabbit in his run and 2 cats stretched out in shade or sun. I caught our tabby helping herself to their water

My cat always stalked my girls when I let them free range. Until they used to charge at him. He quite quickly turned and ran. He now stays out of their way. They get on well.

He is a cheeky cat and has had a snooze in their nest before now
