Green/yellow runny poo

Recommended Posts

One of my chickens is very under the weather. Yesterday she wouldn't come out of the eglu and I initally thought she was broody. This morning I noticed she has started doing nasty greeny/yellow poos and is deffinately looking very under the weather. She hasn't laid an egg for about 4 days now which is very unusual for her. I have already had to have one of my chickens PTS a few weeks ago to what I think was perotinitis.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be. I have tried looking for a diagnosis but haven't been able to find anything concrete to go on. If this chicken is going the same way as my Marj then that will leave me with only one chicken and I don't want to get anymore because I have found chicken keeping very stressful in one way or another. The latest worry, apart from the illness, is having a family of fox cubs living just the other side of the garden fence to my chicken pen! My nerves cannot cope!

To be honest, as you've already lost one recently, there isn't time to mess about :(

The droppings are indicative of a number of problems, such as cocci, enteritis and yes, worms. To identify the cause and therefore the correct treatment, you really need to get a droppings sample analysed - your vet can do this for you, or you can send a sample to Retfords.

The loss of the first hen and the illness of the second may not be connected at all, but it's best to be safe than sorry.

I hope it all works out. Chicken keeping can be stressful at times, but it can also be good fun when all goes well. Fingers crossed. :)

Our joan has had exactley the same thing, I mixed flubenet into their feeds this week and she seems to be picking up. I hate using the stuff, cant see how it works, its such a small amount to add to so much feed, I like to SEE something, but she is getting better, which is the main thing!

hope yours is ok!
