Snowy
Do hens make much noise - likely to be a distrubance to neighbours Some can do, especially at this time of year they get quite enthusiastic in telling everyone about their egg laying. How long do hybrid hens lay for 2 - 3 years, occasionally a bit longer what do most people do when they finish laying? Sunday lunch? Not a lot of meat on a layer, they are bred to eat very little and what they do eat is converted to eggs not meat. They don't tend to live that long once they've finished laying so I think most people just give them a happy retirement. What 'bedding' material is most popular for the Cube? You don't need bedding as such as they sleep roosting on the bars. helps to have something in the nest box though for them to get comfy in and lay on - horse bedding (aubiose/hemcore), shredded paper or straw. Ain't Nobody Here
Do hens make much noise - likely to be a distrubance to neighboursOne of mine sometimes start squawking in the morning (not usually till after 7am) but if I go out and talk to them (or put food/water out if it's not already), it distracts her and she stops. The rest of the day they're all as quiet as mice apart from the occasional egg announcement (which never lasts more than 5 mins - I've timed it ) How long do hybrid hens lay for Three of mine are 3 years old - one hasn't laid for many months, the other 2 don't lay much at all now, just the occasional one. what do most people do when they finish laying? Sunday lunch? Most people see them as pets so couldn't bring themselves to do that! They wouldn't be much good for eating anyway, being layers rather than meat birds (and being old). What 'bedding' material is most popular for the Cube? I've used Hemcore and Easibed and find them both brilliant.
Lavenders_Blue
Do hens make much noise - likely to be a distrubance to neighboursMine have been quiet as mice up until a few weeks ago when they decided they felt the need to announce the arrival of morning to the entire neighbourhood. Not every day though, thank goodness. I think it's just these very early mornings as they have never done it before. Don't hear a peep from them for the rest of the day. How long do hybrid hens lay for Mine are ex batts which I have had for nearly 8 months making them somewhere between 2 and 2 1/2 years old. At the moment they are laying an egg each every day! what do most people do when they finish laying? Sunday lunch? Ooh no, I don't think that would be very tasty. What 'bedding' material is most popular for the Cube? I use dust free wood shavings.
