Introducing new hens! Need some advice pls?

Recommended Posts

Unfortunatley a couple of night ago I found 2 of my chickens dead -I am still in shock seeing them with no heads. It was devastating to see they were a lot more than just chickens to me. Ginger (the hen- the little lady!) and sunny (the cockeral) had great individual personalities and will be much missed. I'm fortunate to have kept the last hen frosty. Obviously she cant live alone so will need to be introduced to some new hens- the question is that is it best to do this sooner or later. Some advice would be greatly appreciated as Im a first time chicken owner.

P.S Pls dont ever trust a 'foxwatch'.

What a horrible experience.

Supervised free ranging, a WIR or an electric fence are the only effective options really.

I think once you and your hen has got over the shock then it would be good to get a couple of new hens.

That is a very useful guide about introductions that Egluntyne has pointed you towards.
