quickcluck Posted June 6, 2010 Share Posted June 6, 2010 We noticed Hazel was a bit bloody the other day, couldn't see any damaged and sprayed her with purple stuff. This PM notice blood again, caught her and there is a prolapse. Patted her gentle with kitchen roll and applied a small amount of pressure and it went back in, but shot straight back out again What should I do until I can get her to a vet tomorrow, do I separate her? Just give her corn? I'm not sure if she's laid today....... She doesn't appear distressed, and is bright....... Please help... what with harriet, we are feeling desperate. You need to keep her in dark or gloomy place to try and stop her ovulating and best to avoid layers pellets so some wheat, corn etc or weetabix but she needs grit. To get the swelling down you can use anusol but I found sugar sprinkled on the prolapse gets it down quicker- Redwings recommendation. If you lay her on your lap on her back and gently hold it in it may give it a chance of staying in but really you need to get the swelling down first. You were right using purple spray it is disinfectant and stops the others seeing blood but I would seperate her. Good luck hope it goes down ok, with Eider I found it took a few days to get the swelling down and then there was some dead tissue that took a couple of weeks to seperate but vet has given me dermisol this time which seperated the dead tissue in few days. But it just slid straight back out There looks to be some black/white tissue there, sort of looks abit like the top of a poo (sorry). Have put her in a cage and covered her, will ring vets in the morning, and try and get her an appointment for the afternoon/evening.... this is a bad weekend, harriet is still looking very hunched after 2 days of antibiotics, maybe I should take them both.... Chucky Mama Posted June 6, 2010 Share Posted June 6, 2010 Sugar is the old fashioned way of reducing the swelling and thus making it easier for everything to fit back in so to speak. The key is to keep the tissue moist otherwise it will dry out, loose blood supply and blacken which is not good. Can you rig up some sort of truss for her. If you can't get it back in see if you can soak a few swabs of a non lint dressing with dilute salt water (1 teaspoon to a pint) and cover the prolapse and strap her up until morning.
