Clipping chicken claws

Recommended Posts

Oddly it's just Black, my Bovans Nera; the other two seem to wear theirs down fine. I've got some big scratches when checking her over so really think it's time for a clipping before it starts to cause her problems and to stop me looking like I've been dragged through the brambles! None of them are ex-batts.

The only ones we ever clip are the over-amorous boys as they can inflict some nasty damage. It's a two person job, one to hold and one to clip, and is best done very slowly, bit by bit, erring on the side of caution. If you do clip one too close, have some wound powder (or even cornflour) at the ready to stem any bleeding and then keep them separate from the others until it's completely stopped.
