Unsecure chicken perches

Hi all,

 

discovered about an hour and a half ago that the chick in one of the eggs under our broody hen was moving and chirping. It has been for the last hour and a half and I was just wondering how long it will take for it to hatch fully.

It can take several hours. One of mine pipped on friday evening, and hatched saturday morning. Others are in a hurry and go from pipping to hatch in a couple of hours or less.

We now have 3 chirping/moving eggs. The eggs are all different sizes so all have different due dates but the date for the big ones is tomorrow and the little ones were due yesterday

I'm so excited it's stupid...like having kids again but you only have to wait for 3 weeks not 9 months!!!!

They can take a few hours - don't be tempted to try + help them out of their shells. If any don't hatch, give them a couple extra days under the broody.

One has finally hatched!!!! We think this was one of the silkie crosses but we're not sure because the eggs are all off my aunt who has various breeds of hens and cockerels penned in together. Anyway, here are the pics....(if it works!!).

Yep...one more has hatched this afternoon (another little, fluffy black one) and I can feel 2 more moving inside their eggs!!

 

will post piccies tomorrow when they're more comfortable.

It's all VERY exciting.

just been to check up on them and we have another chick, but this one's a proper yellow chick from one of the bigger eggs. They're like mad now!!!
