katie-may
my 4 greatly annoyong but lovely chickens seem to have a problem...they are fed s"Ooops, word censored!"s every day never in excess and always have pellets inside their house and peck a blocks and corn outside their pen. At 5am their feeder opens and they recieve food yet they are constantly hungry...I've wormed them but i'm confused and worried as they are eating us out of house and home and are even starting to peck me when i pop in to say hi! hunkydoory
Are they pecking you because they associae you with food or treats? Mine are teh same completely food obsessed - when I open the back door I am met with a loud chorus which I am sure is because they expect food. Oliver Twist eat your heart out! katie-may
It must be that or they're just constantly hungry and will eat anything! I'm glad it's not only mine. it's the same here lately its been warm so we've been opening the back door of a morning and they go mental but if we're outside with them they're fine...oddness! Elaine-chick
I've had my 3 ex-bat girls 3 weeks now, and since they've discovered the joys of free ranging and treats they are insatiable !! I thought the same "do they need worming" but think they are just hungry horaces. Edna is the worst - she has a special technique to stop Valerie and Gertrude from getting their fair share. She stands on the treat tray then does a swift move so she pushes them out of the way with her bottom ! She is the greediest and can now run the fastest when I appear from the kitchen (whether I have food or not) AND YES they peck me too just to see if I'm edible
Egluntyne
All sounds perfectly normal to me. They eat throughout the day, on an ad hoc basis, so a supply of pellets should always be available. They are going mental when you open the door because they associate you with treats. Get them used to you being around without proffering food. This is why they are pecking at you, they are probably expecting you to give them some goodies, and are jumping up in anticipation.
Plum
You are like my OH mine jump at him and act like yours, but mine are used to me being empty handed so I just get gentle clucking much better Cats are the same, Myrtle goes mental when OH comes in. She meows at fridge and looks pitiful, couple of minutes earlier she was quite content.
