Growers to Layers

Recommended Posts

Hi!

Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine! My three girls certainly have, they've been free ranging for the first time today. What fun they had. They were all good as gold and even put themselves back in the run when they'd had enough!! I have three tired little girls now though!!

I was so nervous letting them out as I've had them since they were 11 weeks, but now really feel like they've grown up.

This has what has prompted my question for this evening....They are now 16 weeks old and still eating their growers pellets. When should I introduce them to layers? Is 16 weeks too young to start giving them a mix of growers and layers?

Thanks in advance.

16 weeks is still a bit young - maybe closer to 18 or 20 weeks.

Giving them layers too early can cause problems with development and their bones, and also cause them to lay prematurely.

I'd wait a couple more weeks :D
