igobarefoot
Hi everyone My hennypenny is normally always on the go, and then suddenly this afternoon I noticed she was standing still a lot. She's got worse over the last few hours and is currently indoors with me. She is standing oddly, kind of with her bum in the air but her tail down and seems to be flexing her tummy/bottom area. She's also got her mouth open and her wings out more than usual. I've checked her vent and it looks ok, no swelling or leaking and there's no sign of lice or red mite. I've never her seen her be so still for so long and she looks like she is in distress so I'm sure something is wrong, but I've no idea what. I'm worried sick - has anyone got any ideas please? Chucky Mama
Has she laid today? There could be a softie in the pipeline.
igobarefoot
Yes, she laid this morning. Are her symptons consistent with a softie? Could she lay a normal egg in the morning and then have a softie in the pipeline by the afternoon? Edited June 23, 2010 by Guest
Plum
Wings out and mouth open indicate she is overheating so I would make sure she has shade and water available. You are right they put their wings out when straining as well.
igobarefoot
Just checked on her and she's still like it this morning and the other girls know something is wrong with her too. See seems to be finding walking difficult - just manages makes it to a quiet out of the way spot and then stands still with her eyes closed. Think I'm going to take her to the vets as soon as one opens up, although not sure how much they know about chickens.....
