for anyone with additonal health requirements who worries about or is planning on travelling abroad:

 

we booked with thomson and they let you have an extra 5kg of luggage for medical supplies/equipment at no extra cost. they also arranged for me to have a wheelchair waiting at the airport and offered me any seats we wanted on the plane (also for free). brilliant service so fingers crossed they'll come through with what they've promised

also got great travel insurance with virgin - for both me & hubby the total cost was only £18 (+ the oppitional £6 which we paid to cover us for dangerous sports, i.e. para-gliding) - thought that was excellent since i have an array of health needs and have a rare & complicated illness, and have recently had a number of major surgeries inc one emergency sugery.

in terms of location - the egypitan embassy allow tourists to bring prescribed 'controlled' medication (i.e. class A drugs) into the country with a gp note, and based on previous experience Egypt is a really good place for people with medical conditions & mobility needs to go and still be able have fun as well as some relaxation ...also chilling on a cushion smoking a shisha pipe is heavenly ...especially for those of us who have had a hard life!

 

we fly out on tuesday! and it'll be great to just feel 'normal' for a week

have a lovely holiday, its so pleasing to hear that big companies do still take the trouble to accommodate you when you have a disability so allow you to do what you need to do as comfortably as possible

Thanks for the info. - I had a chat with Lydia yesterday after it was mentioned that some countries can be difficult if you have health problems..........something I'd not really thought about.

 

My DD, SIL and grandchildren are booked to go to Turkey (non package holiday) and I know my DD had been worrying about cover for Lauren with all her dislocations. She's found Tesco to be really helpful and have accepted Lauren without extra charge as she hasn't (so far.....) dislocated her hip, they have EDs on their list and are OK with the list of other dislocations.
