Happily
Ok, so there are now 4 beautiful pekin girls in my cube and run at the bottom of the garden now - Millicent, Blossom, Poppy and Henrietta. They have been in the cube a few hours from when we got home and I have opened the cube door in the hope that they will go down into the run as it's so hot today and there is plenty of cool shade in their run. Millicent was being a bully to Henrietta in the cube and sitting on her and pecking at her - I hope this is normal??! However Millicent is now down in the run sitting in the shade happy as a sand boy while the other 3 are still in the cube panting away. They have water in both the cube and the run but I am worried about the other 3 in the cube as it's so hot today. Do I just let them sort themselvews out and they will come out when they want or should I put them into the run myself? I am trying to enjoy them but all I am doing is worrying - any advice would be greatly appreciated
Guest
If you feel they are getting to hot give them a little push out into the run. I am doing this with my hens. They are not the smartest when it comes to heat sometimes. I am having to put my 6 week old and 8-9 week old pekin hens in shade because they are sitting in the smallest bit of shade. And as you know they are so fluffy.
sjp
with all 3 of my new lots I've always let them find they're own way out but in this heat I think I'd take them out in to the run the sitting on bit is a dominance thing one say to the other I'm your boss i'ts a bit scarey the first time you see it
Happily
Thanks for coming back to me guys, I have put the others in the run now and they are all pottering around. Although 3 of them are arguring over a tiny patch of grass when the rest of the rub is empty ofr them to explore - not the smartest but the cutest! My hubby (he who did not want hcickens) has become all protective of Henrietta and keeps moaning when Millicent runs at her - bless him! I have told him that we have to let them get on with it but he is sitting next to them giving me a second by second report of what they are up to - I think he may be in love!! I feel more relaxed now they are in the run.
