Egluntyne
I keep finding dead bees on my side path. I've no reason to think that there is a nest on my property. From what little I know, they look like honey bees. Is it the extreme heat? I've put a shallow dish of water with marbles in it so that they don't drown, if they need a drink. Anything else I should do?
Daphne
Hi Egluntyne - I don't know I'm afraid but I didn't want you to be responseless! My lot are regularly on the vegetation in my pond drinking so I'm sure it will be helpful to give them some water. I guess it could just be the normal renewal of the worker bees, strangely enough I was only thinking today that I never see the bodies so I wonder if they literally drop dead wherever.... v8landy
they literally drop dead wherever.... Could be many reasons, but natural death (worked to death) is more likley the cause.
Olly
I believe they usually die away from the hive (why? how do they know? how do WE know?) - that's what I've read anyway.
v8landy
Is it like elephants?
Egluntyne
Oh, cheers. I was a bit concerned.
Olly
Is it like elephants? Well, that's what I wonder - although if Egluntyne had several dead elephants on her path I'd be worried. I just read this as a fact somewhere and it's been puzzling me ever since!
