Could this be coccidiosis *update

Recommended Posts

About 4 days ago a noticed that she has slight diarrhea so started worming.....then I noticed what looked like blood clots in her faeces. It was dark not bright red and wasn't stringy....so I'm not sure if this is coccidiosis.

Shes been listless and wants to lie down alot in the sun over the past couple of days.....still eating and drinking and have periods quite happily scratching around and dust bathing. She has stopped laying and tail slightly droppy and I have to keep cleaning the feathers by her tail as dirty. Her vent seems to be pulsing like they do when they have a softee on the way.

I've given her yogurt, bokashi bran and garlic.......I've put Stan F in the coop and run....I've also steam cleaned everything. She is about 2.5 years old.None of the others have any of these symptoms.

Should I order some coccidiosis treatment and start her on this ....will it do any harm if not that?? Or do you think could be something else??

It could be coccidiosis, or it could be something else. If you're taking her to the vet, take a droppings sample with you as your vet will need to get it tested to find the cause. Otherwise you can send a sample to Retford Poultry Vets for diagnosis and treatment advice. Good luck. :)

Vet advised to treat as if it were as Haystack is now showing similar symptoms. Has given me Baycox to treat them...and to bring back at end of the week.

However when I got haystack back from the vets she laid a softee after not laying for about a month and it looks like she may have a prolapse as a result.....now off to research this....have its like a red jelly mass....Its not hanging out just on the inside of the vent...I've cleaned the area with salt water and put some tea-tree cream on it....I've also seperated her. Her vent is bleeding slightly and she is off food and not drinking although I did give her some grapes which she took.

Am now in a state and if I wasn't in work I think I might be having several large glasses of gin. I love my chickens to bits but they sure now how to worry me!
