stephent
Basically our next door neighbours are just so lazy and bone idle. They are refusing to cut their lawn front and back because of the catapillars and moths. Some of the weeds are now the height of the fence (6 foot) its just a disgrace. Now we live on a quite nice estate, and i dont think there are many houses below 250k. Everyone elses garden is lovely, and generally everyone cuts their grass every week and keeps the whole estate looking very presentable, which you would expect from this kind of area. We have noticed Ragwort startting to grow in our garden and its coming from next door. There are these catapillars called Cinnabar moths that feed on this weed. They take on board the poison from the plant and store it as a defence mechanism to ward of prey. The poison gets passed on to anything that eats them and it attacks the liver i am aware. We have just caught one of our cats eating the catapillers. We have rung the vet and he couldnt really advise us as he has never come across the situation or the moth. We have also told the neighbours about the issue, and that the grass needs to be cut, but we just know that nothing will be done. We are now worried about the cats. What should we do? Egluntyne
I imagine that cat's who play out during the day eat all sorts of interesting things.. You are probably better not knowing. If the property next door is owned by a land lord, why not have a discrete word?
batcatz
Hi, I hope your cat is ok. I'm sure it will be as the amount of poison in the catapillar will be tiny. The neighbours sound annoying though!
