The Dogmother
I have been bequeathed some silver plate cutlery, it's around 80 years old, possibly older. The knives have ivory handles, so I am washing them very carefully, but the blades are steel as opposed to stainless steel so they rust and stain easily. I am making sure that they are dried thoroughly, but some more acid food leaves black marks on the blades - anyone got any ideas on how to remove the stains? WitchHazel
HI Clare I would suggest Maas Metal Polishing Creme. It's a pink paste which comes in a small tube, you use a tiny tiny amount. You put some on, buff, and then you can rinse and dry. We have a lot of japanese steel knives, and it works on those. The other you can try, which is something for protecting blades (rather than for cleaning them) is Camelia Oil, It's widely available from (japanese) knife shops/outlets. Hope that helps Hazel
