andyjanec
Hi, I'm new here and have had 3 lovely POL hybrid ladies for about 2 weeks. On Friday we got our first egg, and yesterday and today another 1 each day. I know that it is Nessa that laid them as I saw her going in and out of the box. She is quite a big bird and they are very small eggs, will they get bigger? No signs of eggs from the other 2, how long do they normally take to start laying? Very exciting though! Love looking in the box mid morning, hoping for a little gift. Ps. Finally, how do I add the cute pics to my signature?
Ain't Nobody Here
Congratulations . You didn't have to wait long, lucky thing . The eggs will get bigger, probably after a few weeks. It's a waiting game for the others - there's no way of knowing other than looking out for redder combs and crouching. Here's how to add a signature . andyjanec
Nessa's egg was normal size today and actually fitted in my rack. Good girl! No sign of any from the other 2 yet although Pamela's comb is now huge and very red. Signature sorted, many thanks,
CatieB
Hello and welcome and I'm particularly excited to see a fellow cambs chicken keeper- I'm about 7 miles from Ely. I'm new to this too, as you'll see from my signature. I'm loving everything about my girls and find them so enchanting. I just wonder if it will be so exciting in the winter? Anyway my eggs were very random for the first few weeks in everyway.. size, shape and even texture of the shell. I also got quite a few softies. A few weeks later and they seem to have settled I get 2 or 3 normal eggs everyday although the size still varies quite alot. Happy chicken keeping
midori
It is SO exciting when they start to lay, my POL girls have all started in the last couple of weeks. One laid quite a few softies at first, but today laid a big double yolker. We have had lots of double yolkers and one triple yolker too! When we cracked that into the pan you'd have thought we'd won the lottery! My new layers eggs still vary in size, but I found at first if they'd laid a 'normal' sized egg it was a double yolker. My triple was only 72g. So, you never know... PS. I am like a child and have to check the nest box a hundred times a day...
andyjanec
Yay! Pamela has started laying too. Small but perfectly formed off white eggs. Can't believe I am already getting 2 eggs a day. This is such fun.
