Can anyone give me some advise. My one chichen has now not laid for over two months. I have given her flubenvet and even taken her to the vets but they really didn't know much about chickens. I have followed various advise from this forem but again she is not laying. Looks O.K and not free roaming. It has been sugested that i send a sample of her Poo to "retfords" or another lab which will check to make sure she doesn't have any internal worms etc. Can anyone give me details of whom to contact and where to send her droppings to. My chickens are about 12 months old and bought from Omlet. Thanks for you help.

Just browsing and came across your message here.

I'm going through the same thing at the moment with one of our girls and I've literally just posted a faecal sample off to Retford Poultry Partnerships in Notts. Google them and give them a call. They are very helpful and will advise you what to do. I was quoted £33.00 for a full bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitical check.

 

If you're wondering what to collect the sample in I popped into my GPs and asked them for a urine sample bottle...and they happily obliged

As long as she is up to date with worming (as you say) then I don't think I'd bother sending a sample tbh - seems a bit expensive, 'cos if they come back and say she does have worms you're no better off really

 

If you did want to send a sample its to Retford Poultry Partnership in Nottingham - 01777 703011. The vets should be able to send samples too, I know 'we' (at work experience vets) use BattLabs

 

Maybe she is just going through a moult, and the heat won't be helping. Maybe give her some limestone flour for a calcium boost, and up her protein with meal worms/rinsed tuna, then see if that helps

 

Has anything else changed - different feed, more/less treats etc?

I don't think I'd bother sending a sample either. If they were flubenvetted as per the instructions, are bright and healthy ,have no parasites and eat a good quality diet, it is just a case of sit tight and wait. Lots of people have experienced the same thing at some point. £33 odd - I'd rather spend the money on eggs

I agree, she shouldn't have worms if she's been recently Flubenvetted.

 

The £33 is for the full caboodle, not just examination for worms. They have various tests for cocci, salmonella, coliforms etc etc and if you have them all, yes it does add up. If her droppings are normal then I wouldn't spend that money on having them tested, however if they're not and you're worried about possible causes, it is money well spent.
