Unsecure chicken perches

Following on from advice on this forum I have put my lovely, albiet broody, hen Nessa into a broody cage (an upside-down parrot cage) and was wondering how i know when to release her back into normal life.

 

I thought I had read something about this on another thread but cannot find it again.

 

She is eating and drinking normally and seems to not be constantly sitting. Is this just because she has been in the cage for a day and a half, or could she be coming out of her broodiness.

 

I don't know if I release her too early will this cause more problems?

I left my broody in the cage for 3 days and nights and that snapped her out of it I was worried that if I got her out too soon I would have to start all over again. Good luck

You'll soon know if she's not "cured" when you let her out . Stick her straight back in if she's not . Three days and nights did it for me too .

My araucana's frequently broody but if I spot it right away I can get away with locking her out of the nest box for a day or two, Good luck & tell us how you get on.

I think I shall try to see if she is going to behave in the morning. If not it's another day in solitude.

I released Nessa this morning and so far she has not ventured into the nest box and is acting normally again.

 

Hopefully she has snapped out of it, for now at least.
