coco
My 16 wee old light sussex who I got last Friday is looking peaky [best way I can describe it].I came home from work and she was on the roosting bars in the house but came out when I went up to the run. She looks like she wants to sleep as she is tucking her head in as she would at night. I gave her a bit of corn before and she ate that ok, I haven't checked her for lice but will do this later. Her vent area is clean. i was thinking it could be worms or could it be down to stress. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Jools
It could be worms, or stress, or anything really. Do you know her history?
coco
Only as such as where I got her from all the hens seemed healthy and well cared for. She was in a run with several other POL hens all of who seemed fine. She has just finished a neck moult so I'm hoping she's just feeling a bit low. I mya get some poultry spice of lifeguard to try ands pep her up a bit.
Egluntyne
I'd give her a **Basic Health Check** to see if anything obvious is amiss.
Chucky Mama
It is never a bad idea to worm (Flubehvet) but there could be other issues here. Stress can leave them low and it can also bring an illness to the fore whilst their defences are down. Her vent is OK, have you checked for lice? Any sneezing or snuffling. I would be a little surprised if worms would cause her to be unwell at 16 weeks but it is not out of the question. I would not rush to worm her yet though. I would keep her quaranteened (always a good idea for newbies anyway) and observe for further symptoms. Of course a visit to the vets may be in order. coco
Thanks for your replies. She seems a lot better today and was dustbathing when i came in from work. she seems to have eaten a bit more today. i checked her last night for lice, no sign. I'm putting it down to stress but will keep an eye on he She will be living with my young Welsummer for a few weeks yet until the Welsummer is old enough to be introduced to the other girls. thanks again.
