Help what's wrong with Nugget

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help?

I let my chickens out this morning and nugget just fell out of eglu and couldn't stand up. She is on her side with her legs straight out and stiff. Breathing seems to be ok but can't stand up at all !

No worrying signs yesterday at all . I've put her in a box for the moment.

What could be wrong?

Paralysis could be Mareks, pop her along to the vet this morning and they should be able to let you know. If the worse does happen (fingers crossed that it doesn't) your vet should be able to do a post mortem to confirm one way or the other. (My vet said it is easy to tell from a PM).

Keep her warm and quiet in the meantime and hope it all goes ok at the vet.

Oh this is very strange.....she's perked up a bit now.

She can now sit up and has stood up for a couple of mins before sitting back down .

She had a bad poo earlier. I gave her some water and a few mealworms which she gobbled up ok.

Leaving her in a box in the kitchen.

Maybe she ate something that didn't agree with her yesterday?

Thanks for the quick replies xx

It doesn't sound like Mareks, though that is always my first thought in these circumstances.

It may well be that she had an egg in the pipeline that was pressing on a nerve, causing her temporary paralysis. Let's hope so anyway!

Hi it's me again.

The same thing is happening again tonight. I think it was the egg causing a problem last time. she has been ok since until tonight. Nugget has'nt layed today. She has only been laying for nearly 3 wks. Is this going to happen alot or is it because she is a new layer ?
