Bramble
'til I collect my new hens, very excited but incredibly nervous too ... think I'm more anxious 'cos they're ex bats, hope they'll be ok. Anyway, their new home is ready for them, just got to fill up the grub and glug before I collect them. I'm going to cut the grass now, so I won't have to stress them out for a while with the mower before they've settled in, any other tips for a total newbie hen keeper? Fingers crossed! Have a great weekend everyone!
Ed Picaloon C Boodle
Hi Bramble. That's great news, I am sure you hens will be lovely. My advice, if they are former battery hens, they may not know how to roost, if this is the case you may have to put them onto their roosting bars as they will simply nestle otherwise. Finally have fun and enjoy the chicken keeping experience! Good luck. Ed
Plum
It's very exciting waiting for them so keep yourself busy and it'll soon go because tomorrow you will be sat outside with a nice chair, drink and camera all day. Bye bye housework
Mercedes55
I'm sure you will be fine, I can still remember how excited and also worried we were when we got ours 2wks ago today. I see like me you have an Eglu, so they should really be fine going to bed in that as they aren't what you would call proper perches. We just gently shooed ours into their coop the first couple of nights but now Bella our top hen just herds them all in every night, then comes back out for a last minute bit of food before going to bed herself. They are real characters, I'm sure you will be very happy with them. Really looking forward to seeing pics of them as some seem to be more well feathered than others. Ours were totally bald in places and are already feathering up nicely. You might find they will be a bit nervy and quiet at first as they will have had a stressful day. We let ours out of the run the next day, which was a bit quick. They were slow to come into the garden but now all they want to do is be out all the time
