ariel
Hi all. We have just had our girls since saturday. We cant tell the difference between them at all so think we'll have to get rings. We got our first egg today and it was just unbelievable! One of the girls has been doing runny yellow poos, not very much of it but has anyone a clue about it? We have been putting torch in cube to try and get them in at night and it takes a wee wile to get them in. We have had to use wood chip as bedding as nowhere in Ireland seems to supply easibed or hemcore. If anyone else in Ireland has ideas about the beding could they let us know where they can get anything like hemcore or easibed? We arent sure if we are doing everything ok and so we just sit watching them at night when we put our daughter to bed!
midori
Congrats on your new additions! I am in Ireland and found Easibed hard to get so just use wood shavings. My friend swears by (and says her Dad always did too) a mixture of half peat half wood shavings in the henhouse, but we haven't tried that. Isabel
Congrats on your chooks! The runny poo could be a curry poo - expect lots of them - perfectly normal! I'm also in Ireland - I got a 20kg bale of Aubiose sent from FlyteSoFancy (UK web-based co) with my henhouse. I'll pay the shipping costs when I run out as it's just wonderful stuff!! There are no suppliers over here!
Chucky Mama
How old are they ariel? When they are settled it would be worth worming them with Flubenvet. Don't do it now though as they will be stressed
ariel
The man we bought them off told us they were point of lay but that none of them were laying yet. I think he said about 20 weeks old. They are all up and about and "Ooops, word censored!"ody is moping about or anything so no one looks sick, ha Im laughing, I would have to say that I would not know twhat to look for in a sick chicken! I am reading everything I can get at the minute to keep us right though. Thank you everybody for the replies. My husband wants to go and get another 2 chickens tomorrow, God they do grow on you a bit. We have cube and 2m run and read that we should keep them in for 5 days, my husband thinks that we would have room for another 2 as we will be letting them out in to the garden. Just another question folks, there is a huge field of barley behind us and our fence is only four ft high, would it be advisable to clip their wings? We have nooo experience at all here! Thanks for the tips on the bedding too
Space Chick
I think you'll need a run extension if you want another 2. Congratulations

ariel
Oh wasnt sure if we'd need more space if we got another two if we were going to be letting them free range inthe garden through the day, thanks plum and co for the info and very warm welcome.
