helen1962 Posted July 22, 2010 Share Posted July 22, 2010 Hi All Just thought I would let you know that one of my new hens that I raised from week old chicks has laid her first egg. It was quite funny as I was just doing some finishing touches to the new hen run when I noticed Brenda my young Black Rock (her name has changed from Doris as she suits this better!) Started going in and out of the hen house. She was very excited nd didn't quite know what to do with herself. She eventually settled in the nest box so I waited to see what would happen. She eventually emerged. I looked and there beside Ruby's large brown egg was a small but perfectly formed egg (it was a third the size of one of Ruby's.) Brenda was obviously very proud of what she had achieved as she continually went in and out of the hen house to look at it. I decided to remove it as I thought she might break it.
