Info on Blue Laced Wyandottes please!

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm on the look out for a new hen and a friend of mine has recommended me Blue Laced Wyandottes. I don't know much about this breed, I was wondering if anyone has them/knows about them/has kept them and can give me any useful information on sizes/amount of eggs they lay/temperament etc. The internet's so vast I thought first hand tips might be more helpful!

Thanks x

Hi, I have 2 blue laced Wyandottes and they are lovely girls. They are both placid characters, and get on well with the other hens, and of course they look beautiful. On the down side, they do have a tendency to go broody at the drop of a hat , and I have to say that they don't lay a huge number of eggs.

I mostly have bantam Wyandottes but do have one odd large one, she is about the same height as a hybrid but with shorter legs and a plumper body, they are pretty calm though can be prone to broodiness

One thing to bear in mind is that a BL dotte will normally be reasonably expensive, when you breed blue laced you will get a mix of gold laced, buff laced and blue laced chicks so only around a third of hatches will be blue laced then statistically half of those will be boys so to actually get one blue laced pullet the breeder may have hatched six chicks
