Fitted Wardrobe advice

Recommended Posts

So far Omletters have had an answer to any ques I've asked 8) so don't let me down this time

Over the next few months we're going to be doing lots of moving around of bedrooms and decorating. Three of the bedrooms have absurdly large windows which makes fitted wardrobes a problem. We've worked out how to do it in 2 of the rooms but in the third we have a 2m long alcove that is 48cm deep. Now I checked one wardrobe we have that is shallow but deep enough for clothes and it is also 48cm deep so workable as a wardrobe.

Except Ikea don't make carcasses that shallow :wall: (I want to put sliding doors in front and these probably can be Ikea). I can't go out beyond the alcove because of stupidly wide windows mentioned above.

Does anyone know of anywhere (that is similar cost range as Ikea) that does shallow fitted wardrobe carcasses ?

No urgency, I'm optimistically hoping to get all work completed by Christmas  But I like to do all the planning ahead of time in case a change means doing something different in the early stages. (OH is getting irritated that I'm buying pictures for the walls when he's still trying to clean paper and paste off the first ceiling and we have walls to move and floors to put down before we get to prettying up rooms... )

Hubby, bless him, made all of our fitted wardrobes & used just the Ikea 'innards' ,making the frames bespoke as we too have alcoves, plus sloping ceilings.

They are great, BUT one wardbobe is actually too narrow for a hanger to hang properly - only by a cm or so,but its really aanoying to have to turn all the hangers so they are at an angle so the door will shut

Make sure you measure up well - I would much rather have had the wardrobe poking out of the alcove a bit than the hanger problem
