Tricky
Mrs pepperpot at last has two new friends ( Although she doesn't see it this way at the moment She has Bluebell ( Yes she is a Bluebell) and Scramble ( A beautifully marked Columbine who is frightened of her own shadow and scrambles away at the slightest thing.Hence the name) We picked them up yesterday and put them in the eglu run whilst Mrs P was doing her usual. she didn't seem at all bothered by the new arrivals until we put her in at dusk. She quickly asserted herself without any resistance, but poor scramble is a nervous wreck When I went down this morning the new girls were having a lie in and Mrs P was busy having breakfast. I think they were too scared to join her. Tonight I waited a little later and they've all gone inside without too much trouble. Will be up early to let Mrs P out ! Mrs Pepperpot is an amazing hen.She is 5 1/2 years old and up until a week or so ago was still laying eggs. we thought she had stopped. until i went to put some grass cuttings in my compost box. There wer 6 eggs ij the corner She must have jumped inside and found it very cosy. So she is still laying eggs The new girls are not laying yet and we are waiting to see what colour Scrambles are. Bluebell is a lovely placid girl and is already eating mealworms out of my hand. Scramble will be more of a challenge. Mrs P's best friend, Honey the free range rabbit ( who thinks she's a chicken) has been watching developments with interest. I must put some photos on.... Lavenders_Blue
Mrs P sounds like an real trooper, still laying all those eggs at her age! What cheek to sneak off to the compost bin to hide them though! Hope all your girls settle down and become best friends soon, and that it's not too long before you're getting more eggs.
