Just brought an incy.......

Recommended Posts

I know it's a little late for hatching now but I'm wanting to hatch some table birds to fill up the freezer for the months of jan through until march.

I need a quick maturing table bird so I'm open to suggestions. I've looked at the light sussex, I can get hold of eggs easily but I've no idea as to when they'd be a decent enough size . If you'rew able to suggest anything - I'll see if I can get my sticky little mitts on the eggs.

No pure breed will grow big enough now, its too late, they need a good three months of warm weather to get a good growth to get them in to the winter

Try hybid commercial meat birds - Simon at Poulet Anglaise sells eggs and chicks in small numbers and has an excellent reputation

email in 2008 (hopefully still current!) pouletanglais@ukonline.co.uk

This may be useful - copied from another site:

The 3 we got from Poulet re JA757's, white birds who mature in 8-10 weeks and weigh about 2.6kgs, the coloryield are brown and mature a week or so later, and the Mastergris are greyish and mature in about 12-16 weeks. Like Aggy says, they are doing well and weigh in at 400gms plus at 3 weeks, but they have strong legs and big feet, so have no problem walking

Ok - The 757 eggs were Hubbards........ and they're on they're way!

I've only got the 6 so far - just to play about with the incubator and see how posted eggs and new incuabtor work. It's going to be trial an error I suppose, but who know's I might get something to hatch before spring!
