cliveb
I have just got three new Black Rock's ( 14 weeks old) to increase the flock to 6 in total. This is the second time I have introduced hens to an existing flock, so currently they are in a seperate run with the others free ranging as usual. Therin lays the problem,I have a wooden Coop that I use as a temp home before mixing them together in the cube. The first night the Rock Chicks were in their run, I popped them in the Coop to let them know it was thier new home, and left the door open. An hour later I went out to lock them in and found them roosting in the tree in thier run. I placed them back in the Coop for the night. Last night I put them in the Coop with much protesting from the girls. I am not convinced that they know the Coop is home, any sugestions on how to get them to go to bed in the right place? My last lot on newbies went straight to bed no problems.
joza2210
I would lock them in the house for maybe 2 days ... Just so they know that thats their new home ...
Patricia W
Sure you haven't got red mite? Might be worth a check Tricia
chick wiggle
They may just be a bit slow on the uptake about where their new home is. However, its always a good idea to check for red mite too. Probably the easiest way is to wait til dark then go out with a torch and inspect the inside of the house. As they only come out at night, if you have any, you should see them then. Fingers crossed your girls are just a bit slow!
cliveb
Hi Guys, Thanks for the advice. I left it until 9:30 last night and watched them file into the Coop. I guess I was just a bit hasty before.
